How are my photos stored? How reliable/secure is the backup?

With Shoebox, your photos are stored privately and securely on our cloud service. We built Shoebox to keep your photos safe no matter what happens.

All of your photos are private by default. You'll need your password to access them. They won't ever be shared unless you explicitly send them to someone.
We keep multiple copies of each photo in geographically distributed locations. That way you are protected against hard-drive failures and even natural disasters.
Your photos are encrypted during the transfer and while stored on the service.
Shoebox uses AES-256 encryption to store your photos, the same encryption used by the National Security Agency for classified 'TOP SECRET' information. During transfer, we use SSL encryption. Both are industry standard and are trusted by banks to keep data safe.
